I traded with my brother for a no.4 mk1 today.  It says its a longbranch from Canada (eh?) made in 1950.  Its my first enfield.  It seems to not have a rear sight and has a B-square sight rail mounted on it for a scope.  I usually stray from bubba'd rifles but figured Id take this one in.  Now I have to figure out how it works and how to take it apart to clean it.  I wont post any pics of it as it is against board rules.

Any links to directions for break down?

If the scope mount does not stop the bolt from being removed than the only special tool really required for a tear down is for removing the firing pin from the bolt, which you should not need to do otherwise.

Congrats on the new Enfield!!

I seem to remember having a scope mount setup like that on a rifle I picked up years back, and I think I did have to strip it off to allow the bolt to clear.  It remained off, and is now lost in the mists of time right were it belongs.  You will need that bolt tool for the firing pins removal or you will not be able to clean it, a negative point against the Enfield bolt design in my opinion.  Gun Parts Corp should have it.  I had links to Enfield cleaning instructions, but they seem to be missing.  Other than that dam firing pin, there is nothing that complicated about it, just take your time removing the forend wood, make sure you got all the screws.

Thanks for the replies guys.  I did get her apart.  This things bolt head has to be turned upright very near the chamber.  Once I did that it slid right out.  The scope mount didnt need to be removed but I took it off anyways to properly clean it.  I may try to find a rear sight to put back on it as the scope mount only has one small hole drilled to mount it.

The wood was kinda tricky to get apart.  Its a safe bet that it hasnt been apart for quite a few years.

The metal seems parkarized?  Its a dull grey.  This thing is neat but I prefer a good Mosin.  But thats my cup of tea.

Sounds like it has one of the quick removable notch things in the rail that savage did in the war to speed productions.

I also prefer a nice Mosin but for a good change of pace, its hard to be a nice lee enfield no1 mk4. I like the british versions more then the US versions. Also them brass buttplates are bad-a**.

never seen a parked enfield. Maybe bubba did more to it then originaly thought.

The parkerizing is mostly on the barrel under the wood, and on the trigger housing and reciever.  Now that I am looking at other #4 mk1s, it seems mine isnt scoped by bubba after all.  There is a screw on the right side of recievers on the others I have seen pics of.  On mine the screw is used as the 3rd mounting point for the scope mount.  The other points are where the rear sight goes.

The screw you are seeing on the left side of the receiver is the case ejector. When you pull back the bolt to eject the cartridge, the cartridge hits that bolt end and gets kicked out. Very simplistic. If you need a rear sight PM me and I can give the website of a distributor that has them.
