i have a m44 and i was going to buy a 91/30 to put a scope on it to make a sniper clone. i wanted the PU style scope and mount and i think that i need 2 holes in the reciever and some of the wood cut? could i be able to do this myself? or is it worth a gunsmith doing, and what would a gunsmith charge for something like that. i also would need the bent bolt. where couold i find one? i dont know about headspacing so can anyone tell me how to check it?

another option that i have is to buy a ex sniper, that would save me the drilling in the reciever but i think i would have to cut out some of the wood for the mount? if i do this ill need a bent bolt to.

and third i could just buy a sniper with everything, i think the clones are around 500 and the real ones are worth alot more. i think building one myself would be the cheapest, but the real sniper might be more accurate because if im not mistaken the russians test fired the rifles and used the most accurate ones to be snipers. im not saying a regular mosin cant be as accurate as a sniper but i just think that there more of a chance of a real snier mosin to be more accurate. you could probly only notice it at long range though. but the most ill ever shoot is probly 300-400 yards.

i think i want to buy an ex sniper but what would you guys do?

sorry, but i do like keeping firearms in the original condition. that why i considered the ex sniper, even though it wont be all original but it once was a sniper. and thats another reason that i wanted a real sniper to.

I surely wouldnt hack up the rifle being I strongly believe in preserving these rifles. my advice would be to just save up and get an original 91/30 PU sniper for $800,that way you got the history and the accuracy.

It is not cheaper to build your own.....particularly if you use the correct parts etc....You can get a real one...all it takes is money.....if you can afford a mosin...you can afford a Sniper....it just takes longer to save....its really quite simple.....

Ive heard sub MOA groups from quite a few owners. These are very high qaulity sniper's rifles.
